The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
Jesus met this woman at the well. She knew, apparently, the promise of the coming Messiah. She knew of the promise. She knew there was a God. But she had not realized how close He was to her. How all she had to do was reach out and touch Him. But in His grace, in His mercy, He told the disciples in verse 4 of the 4th chapter, ‘he must go to Samaria’. They went off and bought groceries, filling the belly as many of us do, of course we are flesh, so that’s what we do. He had to go meet this woman at an appointed time, when no one else, not even His own disciples, would be around. Just her, just Him. And then, He tells His disciples in verses 32 and 34..this is my meat!!, this is God the Father’s meat…not the groceries you bought, this is what fills Me. God speaks many times through people, circumstances, preachers, His Word. But never discount the opportunities to reach out to Him when we are alone. He loves, and goes way way way out of His way, to have relationship with us. What a privilege.
